I took about a 48-hour break from the internet after submitting my job app. In those two days, I got 2 emails from my PhD advisor, plus 4 emails from a professor that I've long admired as a writer/researcher, but she has been terrible about being in touch about things. In one of the emails, she finally gave me back comments on a dissertation chapter that I had sent her 4, no, 5 months ago! She's an expert in my area, and I am always impressed with her comments -- she's brilliant, she's generous, she's thoughtful. I just wish I knew how to get her to respond sooner. Anyway, I digress. I was thinking maybe I should take internet breaks more frequently to create the conditions for Murphy's law?
